Home School Teacher – Kommetjie, Cape Town

Are you a qualified, neuro-affirming teacher with special needs experience and a talent for planning? A family in Kommetjie is looking for a calm, organised teacher to lead their child's homeschooling journey!
Salary: R18,000 – R20,000 pm
Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM (hours will be built up gradually)
Location: Kommetjie, Cape Town
Start Date: January 2027, with an observation period in December to get to know the family
THE ROLE
You'll be the steady, guiding presence behind a predictable, engaging homeschool day, shaping learning around how the child actually learns best.
- Homeschool Planning: Plan and structure the curriculum, breaking it into manageable, achievable steps
- Programme Liaison: Work with the homeschool programme to keep everything up to date, compliant and above board
- Interest-Led Learning: Notice, nurture and record incidental learning that grows from the child's special interests
- Gentle Routine Support: Maintain calm, predictable daily rhythms that support regulation and focus
- Executive Function Support: Help keep schedules, tasks and learning on track
- Family Communication: Keep parents informed with clear, regular updates on progress
- Afternoons may include outings and household errands
A NOTE ON THE HOUSEHOLD
This is a neurodiverse home, so a calm, low-key presence who is comfortable and familiar with ADHD, PDA and Autism will fit in well.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Education (non-negotiable)
- Special needs experience (non-negotiable)
- Homeschooling experience
- Strong planning skills and highly organised
- A proven track record of clear, consistent communication
- Calm intuition: able to stay grounded amid shifting moods or sensory needs
- Proactive adaptability: willing to shape systems around the child rather than imposing rigid structure
- Preferably 30 mins or closer commute
- 3 contactable professional references
- Valid driver's licence & reliable car
- Must love dogs!
