STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH
Founded in 1896 and set in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Michaelhouse is a leading Anglican Independent senior Boarding School for boys from Grade 8 to Grade 12.
Michaelhouse is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Strength and Conditioning Coach to join our Human Kinetics (HK) Department and High-Performance Centre on a Fixed Term Contract in January 2027. The successful applicant will be involved working in the S&C team, designing and implementing training programs for boys, running HK/PE classes, as well as involvement in match days and sporting events/tours.
FULL INVOLVEMENT IN ALL ASPECTS OF SCHOOL LIFE IS EXPECTED, INCLUDING:
- Pastoral care for example: boarding house/tutoring and bus duties etc.
- Assisting with Clubs and Societies
- Assisting with Outdoor Education
- Liaising with staff, boys and parents
REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ideally an Honours degree in Biokinetics or Exercise Science
- A minimum of 2 year’s relevant working experience
- A passion for and experience in strength and conditioning coaching at a youth and/or elite level
- Experience in training programme design and implementation with proficiency in technical coaching skill of Olympic lifting techniques, speed & agility development and energy system development
- Experience or willingness to embrace GPS technology and/or athlete monitoring systems
- Interests in key school sports (preferably cricket/hockey/waterpolo)
- Prior experience working in a school environment and teaching HK would be advantageous
- As Michaelhouse is a boys’ boarding school, and the incumbent may be housed in a boys’ boarding house, preference will be given to male candidates
- Alignment with the Christian values and ethos of the school
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- A clear criminal clearance certificate
