Seeking a principal who builds culture, drives results, and inspires excellence

Apex High School is a no-fee parallel medium public high school that opened in January 2018. The school has partnered with Apex Education Group as part of the Collaboration Schools Pilot Programme - a public private partnership programme in the Western Cape.

The School Governing Body of Apex High School invites applications from exceptional leaders, with a track record of success leading through inspiration, strong character, superior relationship skills and a focus on fostering a collaborative school community.  Experience in championing a high expectations culture for both learners and staff is essential.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement is a REQV14 qualification (matric + four years qualification)
  • Certification through the South African Council of Educators (SACE)-proof of registration required
  • Police clearance certificate required
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport essential
  • Minimum of eight years teaching experience

Essential experience and skills:

  • A minimum of seven years’ experience on a high school senior leadership team
  • Experience of leadership in a highly successful school that provides an outstanding education for its learners
  • A track record of leading successful learner interventions and improving learner outcomes
  • A track record of high expectations personally and professionally
  • Experience in instructional leadership and coaching and mentoring of educators highly advantageous
  • Sound knowledge of the South African Education Act and WCED policies and procedures
  • Experience in performance management of staff
  • Enhances a positive and high expectations school culture of teachers and learners
  • Experience in school governance, the management of resources and budgets
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to multi-task and prioritise work
  • Fluency in both English and Afrikaans
  • Computer literate and MS Office proficient

  • Is highly visible and present in the daily life of the school, with a willingness to lead from classrooms, corridors, assemblies, parent meetings and the school gate—and not only the principal's office
  • Balances empathy with accountability and understands that being supportive of staff and learners does not mean lowering standards.
  • Has the courage to make difficult decisions and address underperformance, poor professional conduct and low expectations directly, fairly and consistently
  • Demonstrates an unwavering belief that a learner’s background should never determine the level of academic challenge, opportunity or expectation they receive

Contract & Benefits: This is a full-time, permanent position with the School Governing Body of Apex High School.  The SGB offers a competitive salary and benefits package to the successful candidate.  The successful candidate will be required to undergo a credit check.
