JUNIOR SCHOOL HEAD
Provides strategic and operational leadership across the Junior School to uphold high standards in teaching, well-being, and school culture.
CBC St John’s is an independent Catholic school for Grades 000 to 12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1935, the College is committed to offering a holistic education grounded in Gospel values to develop young people.
The Board of Governors is inviting applications for the position of Junior School Head, starting on 1 January 2027.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of College and the Senior Executive Management Team to maintain high standards in teaching, learning, student well-being, and school operations.
We are seeking an inspirational and collaborative leader who is committed to excellence, accountability, and creating a positive school culture that aligns with the College’s ethos.
This role requires providing both strategic and operational leadership across the Junior School.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and passionate classroom educator with a solid understanding of the independent school sector’s demands and a willingness to promote the College to ensure its sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Commitment to nurturing, developing, and promoting the College’s ethos and the mission of the Christian Brothers’ founder, Edmund Rice.
- Curriculum and academic management.
- Staff development, support and performance management.
- Learner discipline and behaviour management.
- Timetabling and school operations.
- Budget and resource management.
- Parent and community engagement.
- Supporting the Head of College and Board in the effective management and continued development of the school.
- Teaching the CAPS curriculum in the Intermediate and/or Inter-Sen phases.
- Promoting a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture.
Minimum Requirements
Ideally, the candidate should be a practising Catholic or have a strong understanding of and commitment to Catholic or Christian values.
Requirements include:
- Relevant academic and professional qualifications.
- Full registration with SACE.
- Current police clearance and be cleared on the Sexual Offenders Register.
- Demonstrated experience teaching the CAPS curriculum in the Intermediate and/or Inter-Senior phases.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience at the Senior Executive Management Team level within a school environment.
- A sound understanding of curriculum planning, assessment, and learner support.
Competencies and Skills
- A high standard of English, both written and spoken.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to deliver and maintain a high standard of teaching and learner support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in conflict resolution and relationship management.
- Excellent computer and administrative skills.
- Capability to use initiative and work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Skills in managing and contributing to budget planning.

Applicants must provide:
- A CV not longer than three A4 pages.
- A letter of application detailing previous leadership positions and achievements containing the names of three contactable referees.
- A letter by the applicant outlining their long-term vision for the College, as well as a short-term (6 months) summary on how the applicant would assume their role at the College.
- A single page non-AI generated document will be sufficient.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Check and be cleared on the Sexual Offenders Register.
- Certified copies of SACE registration, qualifications, and the applicant’s identity document must also be provided.
Closing Date: Friday, 11 September 2026
Applicants who apply and do not receive a response by 21 September 2026 must accept that they have not been shortlisted for an interview. This may be because the minimum requirements were not met, or a decision may have been made to withdraw the position and not fill the post.
