St John’s College is a world-class Anglican School situated on a magnificent campus in Houghton, Johannesburg, offering quality education from Pre-Primary to Post-Matric. St John’s Preparatory forms part of St John’s College and caters to students from Grades 3 to 7. The school has an outstanding record in preparing students for College and offers an excellent academic curriculum which is enriched with music, art, drama, sport and technology.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and experienced class teacher who is passionate about shaping young minds and contributing to a culture where each student feels valued and equipped to thrive. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to deliver outstanding teaching and innovative pedagogies in a supportive and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in creating a nurturing atmosphere that meets the diverse educational and developmental needs of every student, fostering their growth and love for learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high‑quality lessons that engage all boys in the class and support diverse learning needs.
  • Prepare clear lesson plans, resources and assessments that promote positive development and accurately track each boy’s progress, informing next steps in learning.
  • Design schemes of work that are aligned to the curriculum and appropriately matched to boys’ different academic needs and abilities.
  • Create and sustain a learning environment in which boys can flourish holistically, developing confidence, curiosity and resilience.
  • Contribute to the ongoing review of the curriculum so that teaching remains current, effective and responsive to the needs of individual boys and classes.
  • Play an active, meaningful and engaging role in the school’s extra‑curricular programme.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Education (Intermediate or Senior Phase)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the classroom
  • Have a proven track record in teaching at a Preparatory school level
  • Current SACE registration
