Rhenish Girls’ High School seeks to appoint a Music Educator for Grade 8 - 12 in a full-time, School Governing Body position (Post Level 1). Start Date: 1 January 2027.

Rhenish Girls’ High School is seeking a passionate Music Educator to deliver engaging subject instruction in the Senior Phase (grades 8 & 9) as well as the FET Phase (Grades 10 – 12), alongside Piano tuition. A second instrument such as Voice, a Brass instrument or Saxophone will be to the candidate’s advantage. The ideal candidate will inspire both academic and performance excellence. Proficiency in Piano is highly recommended. The ability and experience in choral conducting will be advantageous, but is not a
requirement, as the post is first and foremost a music educator post.

Skills and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree with a major in Music.
• Recent teaching experience in Music (CAPS) to Grade 12.
• Proven track record of delivering excellent results.
• Passion for teaching Music and a commitment to learner success.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and engage effectively with learners and colleagues.
• Excellent administrative, planning and organisational skills.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to perform in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to innovatively and skilfully integrate technology into the classroom, using blended learning to enhance the learning experience.
• Willingness to be fully involved in the extramural and extracurricular offerings at the school.
• NSC marking experience is an added advantage.
• Experience preparing learners for practical and theory examinations.
• Sound knowledge of music theory, aural training, and general music knowledge examinations (e.g. Trinity, ABRSM, UNISA or similar) will be advantageous.
• Valid SACE registration.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach Music to learners in Grades 8–12.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in:
  • Music Literacy
  • General Music Knowledge
  • Aural Training
  • PAT requirements (Grades 10 - 12)
  • Teach individual piano lessons (up to music grade 8 level).
  • Enter learners for Eisteddfods, external examinations
• (Trinity/ABRSM/UNISA), competitions and provide accompaniment where needed.
  • A Second instrument is a strong recommendation (Voice/Brass/Saxophone).
  • Excellent piano accompaniment skills.
• Assess, monitor, and report on learner progress in accordance with school and curriculum requirements.
• Prepare learners for internal and external theory and practical examinations where applicable.
• Develop learners' musical literacy and appreciation across a variety of musical styles and genres.
• Accompany learners on the piano for lessons, rehearsals, performances, and examinations where required.
• Choir accompanist, if required.
• Maintain accurate assessment records and learner portfolios.
• Contribute to the continued growth and development of the school's music programme.
• Contribute to broader school life: concerts, assemblies, cultural events and prizegiving, including rehearsals/performances outside teaching hours.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the broader school community.
• Fulfil the general duties and responsibilities expected of all educators at the school, including pastoral care and co-curricular involvement.
