Head of Mathematics and Mathematics Teacher
Cambridge IGCSE, AS & A Level | Full-Time
Commencing January 2027
The International School of Cape Town is seeking an experienced and dynamic Mathematics educator to lead the High School Mathematics Department while teaching Mathematics up to Cambridge International A Level.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years’ recent experience teaching Cambridge International Mathematics, including at IGCSE, AS & A Level, and demonstrate the ability and potential to provide effective academic and departmental leadership.
- Provide academic and operational leadership to the High School Mathematics Department.
- Teach Cambridge International Mathematics across IGCSE, AS and A Level.
- Lead curriculum planning, development and delivery in alignment with Cambridge International standards.
- Ensure consistently high standards of teaching, assessment, moderation, reporting and examination preparation.
- Monitor curriculum coverage and analyse student-performance data to implement appropriate support, extension and improvement strategies.
- Support and mentor Mathematics teachers, promoting collaboration, accountability and professional development.
- Promote critical thinking, mathematical reasoning and problem-solving across the curriculum.
- Manage departmental resources, budgets, deadlines and administrative requirements.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and school leadership.
- Contribute to the school’s broader academic priorities, extra-curricular programme and wider activities.
Applicants must meet all the following requirements:
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as a major and a recognised teaching qualification, or a Bachelor of Education degree with an appropriate Mathematics specialisation.
- Current full SACE registration and good professional standing.
- A minimum of five years’ recent experience teaching Cambridge International Mathematics, including proven experience at IGCSE, AS and A Level.
- A demonstrated record of successfully preparing students for Cambridge external examinations.
- Sound knowledge of Cambridge curriculum, assessment, syllabus-planning, moderation and examination requirements.
- The ability to lead and develop a team, analyse academic-performance data and implement improvement strategies.
- Strong organisational, communication, interpersonal and technology skills.
- A willingness to contribute to the School’s extra-curricular programme and wider activities.
Applicants without the required five years’ Cambridge International Mathematics teaching experience, including experience at AS & A Level, will not be considered.
- Previous experience as a Head of Mathematics, Head of Department, Head of Subject or in a similar academic leadership role.
- Experience leading curriculum development, mentoring teachers or facilitating departmental professional development.
- Experience managing departmental resources and budgets.
- Experience as a Cambridge examiner or participation in Cambridge subject-specific professional development.
- Experience teaching Additional Mathematics or Further Mathematics.
- Experience working in an international or high-performing academic school environment.
- A strong academic vision and genuine passion for Mathematics and student success.
- The confidence and ability to lead, motivate, support and hold a team accountable.
