Eversdal Primary School is a leading public primary school with a proud tradition of sporting excellence, holistic learner development, and strong community involvement. We are seeking to appoint an exceptional, passionate, and visionary Head of Sport to lead, manage, and further develop our comprehensive sporting programme.

We are looking for a dynamic, hands-on leader who can build on the school’s strong sporting foundation whilst bringing fresh ideas, effective systems, and a clear strategic vision for the future of sport at Eversdal Primary School.

This is a senior operational and strategic leadership position requiring an individual who is equally comfortable leading people, managing complex sporting programmes and administration, and being actively involved on the sports field.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a culture of participation, sportsmanship, excellence, and enjoyment through sport, while ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to develop to their full potential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing strategic and operational leadership and direction across all sporting codes and extra-curricular sporting activities.
  • Developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing a long-term strategic vision for sport at Eversdal Primary School.
  • Co-ordinating and managing the school’s annual sporting programme, including practices, fixtures, tournaments, festivals, tours, and other sporting events.
  • Developing and co-ordinating the annual sporting calendar in collaboration with school management and relevant staff.
  • Overseeing the scheduling and co-ordination of practices, matches, transport, venues, officials, and other logistical requirements.
  • Planning, organising, and overseeing sporting tours, including budgeting, logistics, communication, supervision, and appropriate risk management.
  • Leading, managing, mentoring, and supporting internal and external coaches and staff involved in sport.
  • Identifying and facilitating opportunities for the professional development and upskilling of coaches.
  • Ensuring that coaching standards and practices are consistent with the school’s sporting philosophy, values, and expectations.
  • Coaching at least one summer and one winter sporting code.
  • Overseeing fair, consistent, and transparent team selection, placement, and participation processes across sporting codes.
  • Promoting broad-based learner participation and enjoyment of sport while identifying and developing talented athletes through appropriate high-performance pathways.
  • Fostering an inclusive sporting culture that provides meaningful opportunities for learners across different levels of ability and experience.
  • Promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, respect, school pride, and appropriate conduct among learners, coaches, staff, parents/guardians, and spectators.
  • Managing sport-related queries and concerns from learners and parents/guardians in a professional, constructive, and solution-focused manner.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with learners, parents/guardians, staff, other schools, sporting bodies, associations, external coaches, and service providers.
  • Overseeing all sport-related administration, including budgeting, communication, record-keeping, team lists, results, achievements, and awards.
  • Preparing, managing, and monitoring the annual sport budget in consultation with school management.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate communication of fixtures, changes, team selections, results, and other relevant sporting information.
  • Overseeing the effective use, maintenance, procurement, and development of sporting facilities, equipment, and resources.
  • Overseeing the procurement, management, and co-ordination of learner and coaching staff sporting attire.
  • Overseeing the school’s Physical Education programme and ensuring alignment with the school’s broader sporting and learner-development objectives.
  • Managing the recording and recognition of learners’ sporting achievements, including sport scroll awards and other sporting honours.
  • Monitoring learner participation, sporting performance, and development across sporting codes and using relevant information to guide future planning and improvement.
  • Ensuring compliance with school policies, relevant sporting regulations, child-protection requirements, health and safety procedures, First Aid provisions, and appropriate risk-management practices.
  • Representing Eversdal Primary School at sporting forums, meetings, associations, and other relevant structures.
  • Maintaining a visible and active presence at practices, fixtures, tournaments, festivals, and major sporting events.
  • Contributing actively to the broader life, culture, and ethos of Eversdal Primary School.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • An appropriate teaching qualification (B.Ed. or PGCE) and/or a relevant qualification or further studies in Sport Management, Human Movement Science, Physical Education, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in sports management, co-ordination, or leadership, preferably within a school environment, with demonstrated experience in coordinating multiple sporting codes, coaches, teams, and sporting events.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and developing school-age athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams effectively.
  • Strong administrative, organisational, and planning skills.
  • Sound financial management and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to manage challenging situations and resolve conflict professionally and constructively.
  • Sound computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to work confidently with digital scheduling, communication, and administrative systems.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • A valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP), or willingness to obtain one.
  • Compliance with all applicable child-protection and safeguarding requirements, including a valid police clearance certificate and the required clearance against the National Register for Sex Offenders.

ADVANTAGEOUS QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Recognised coaching certifications in one or more major sporting codes.
  • A valid First Aid qualification.
  • Experience in managing large-scale school sporting programmes, tournaments, festivals, tours, and events.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring a team of coaches and/or sporting staff.
  • Proven success in developing sporting excellence at primary school level.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic sporting programmes.
  • Experience in managing sporting budgets, equipment, facilities, and external service providers.
