Edgemead High School – Head of Sport Vacancy

Edgemead High School is a dynamic, value-driven and progressive school committed to providing learners with opportunities to develop and grow through a diverse and vibrant sporting programme.

We are seeking to appoint a passionate, experienced and highly organised Head of Sport to provide strategic leadership and effective management of the school’s sporting programme.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Providing strategic leadership and oversight of all school sporting activities and programmes.
• Leading the development and delivery of an inclusive, values-based sporting programme that promotes participation, achievement and learner growth while supporting high-performance development and providing every learner with a structured, positive sporting experience.
• Managing, guiding and supporting sports managers, coaches and relevant staff.
• Building positive relationships with learners, parents, staff, schools, sporting bodies, sponsors and community organisations.
• Overseeing the day-to-day operations, administration, facilities, equipment and logistics of the Sports Department.
• Managing sports budgets, resources and sponsorships effectively.
• Ensuring the effective planning and coordination of fixtures, tournaments, tours, Derby Days, festivals and other sporting events.
• Coordinating the logistical requirements for home games, including fields, facilities, security and access.
• Arranging transport and referees/officials for sporting fixtures and tournaments.
• Maintaining and updating the school’s online sports fixtures calendar and weekly sports communications.
• Managing the issuing, collection, care and storage of sports kit and equipment, including maintaining accurate inventories.
• Manage attendance registers on school software management systems.
• Preparing relevant documentation, certificates, programmes and awards as required.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have:

• A relevant qualification and experience in sport management, education or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience managing school or youth sport.
• Visionary leadership in a school sport context.
• Strong knowledge of youth development and high-performance sport.
• Proven leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide coaches and managers.
• Excellent organisational, communication, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to manage multiple programmes, events, resources and deadlines effectively.
• Confidence in dealing with the logistical and operational requirements of school sport.
• A valid PDP and coaching/officiating qualifications would be advantageous.
• Self-motivated, organised, and committed to upholding the school’s ethos.
• Willingness to work afternoons, Saturdays and outside normal school hours when required.

REQUIRED CLEARANCES

• Name clearance certificate or proof of application.
• Sexual Offenders Register clearance certificate or proof of application.
