We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Grade 1 Teacher to join our team at Lighthouse Academy, starting in January 2027. Our language of learning and teaching is English.

This would be a contract position initially, with a view to it becoming permanent. Lighthouse Academy provides an opportunity to be a part of Christian outreach and positive change in South Africa. Remuneration is market related and our school holidays are aligned with private school holidays. We work together with all our staff on skills development within their positions.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

  1. Curriculum Implementation: Create and deliver age-appropriate lessons that align with CAPS as well as our Christian ethos and Charlotte Mason principles, fostering intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth.
  2. Assess Learners: Make use of continuous as well as formal assessments to monitor learners’ progress.
  3. Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe, respected, and encouraged to express themselves.
  4. Individualized Instruction: Recognize and cater to the diverse learning needs of each student, ensuring their development across various domains.
  5. Parent and Community Engagement: Foster open communication with parents, involving them in their child's educational journey, and participating in school events and initiatives.
  6. Professional Development: Stay updated on educational trends and best practices, and actively participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education/ PGCE (Foundation Phase)
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Passion for nurturing young minds and fostering a Christian worldview.
