Clifton Nottingham Road invites applications for a Foundation Phase Teacher

Clifton Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational school offering classes from Grade 000 to Grade 7, with the option of weekly or termly boarding. Founded in 1942, the school is set on a picturesque 64-hectare estate in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

An opportunity exists for an outstanding Foundation Phase teacher to join Clifton Preparatory School. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of high academic standards and working effectively within a team.

Requirements:

• Relevant professional Degree in Foundation Phase Education (B.Ed or PGCE) with full SACE registration.
• A minimum of two years’ experience teaching within the Foundation Phase.
• Valid Police Clearance and Clearance Certificate from the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO).
• Current First Aid Certification (Level 1 or higher) or willingness to obtain it.
• Strong knowledge of early literacy (phonics/guided reading) and early numeracy foundational
• development.
• Ability to plan, differentiate, and implement a dynamic curriculum that promotes academic excellence and supports diverse learning needs.
• Comprehensive computer literacy with the ability to integrate technology seamlessly into classroom
• pedagogy and online administration.
• Participation in the full co-curricular and sporting programme is a requirement of the role.

• Inclusive Mindset: A positive attitude and a firm belief that all children can succeed, backed by an understanding of early learning support and extension.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teaching & Learning: Plan, prepare, and deliver creative, interactive, and developmentally appropriate
  Foundation Phase lessons across all core subjects.
  Classroom Environment: Foster a warm, inclusive, and structured environment where young children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to learn.
• Assessment & Reporting: Continuously assess, track, and record children’s progress, providing clear,
  constructive feedback to parents and learning support specialists.
• Co-Curricular Contribution: Actively coach, run, and supervise assigned sporting activities, extracurricular
  clubs, and school events.
• Pastoral & Cultural Care: Nurture each child’s holistic well-being, emotional literacy, and social development while contributing positively to the school’s cultural life and ethos.
• Professional Collaboration: Work closely with phase colleagues, learning support staff, and school leadership while actively engaging in ongoing professional development.
