ATHLONE PRIMARY SCHOOL, PIETERMARITZBURG, KZN invites applications for the following School Governing Body post:
MUSIC & DRAMA EDUCATOR

Athlone Primary School invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and dynamic educators for the position of Music & Drama Educator.

Assumption date: 1 September 2026

We seek a committed and professional educator who will contribute meaningfully to cultural and academic excellence, learner development, sound discipline, and the broader life of the school community.

Minimum Requirements
o A recognised degree or equivalent teaching qualification
o Current SACE registration (Compulsory)
o 3 – 5 years proven teaching experience within the Music & Drama field
o Sound and practical knowledge of the CAPS curriculum and Annual Teaching Plans (ATPs)
o Experience in and ability to teach Music, Drama, Performing Arts and Personal & Social Well-being to Grade R to Grade 7 learners
o Ability to play the piano
o Ability to lead the school choir
o Ability to produce annual school productions
o Ability to assist learners with the annual Speech & Drama festival (SADASA)
o Knowledge of and / or practical experience in integrating technology into teaching and learning
o Willingness and ability to contribute to the school’s extramural programme, particularly Boys’ and Girls’ sporting codes
o Valid Driver’s Licence

Key Competencies & Expectations
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
o Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain discipline in a structured, respectful learning environment
o Competence in assessment for learning, including the design of formal and informal assessments aligned to CAPS
o Ability to analyse learner performance data and implement intervention strategies where necessary
o Experience supporting learners with diverse learning needs, including remedial and extension strategies
o Commitment to maintaining accurate academic records and compliance with school reporting systems (including familiarity with SA-SAMS where applicable)
o Professional communication skills when engaging with parents, colleagues, and School Management
o Willingness to participate in school committees, events, and whole-school initiatives
