Wynberg Boys’ High School seeks a passionate and visionary Director of Rugby to lead and strengthen one of South Africa’s premier school rugby programmes. The Director will provide strategic leadership and overall management, driving growth, sustainability, and alignment with the school’s ethos while fostering a high-performance environment that balances excellence, participation, player development, coaches’ development, and sportsmanship. Candidates should bring extensive school and youth coaching experience, with University, provincial or national development exposure considered a strong advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop short-medium term rugby vision, philosophy, and measurable objectives.
- Build sustainable programme structures and foster a positive rugby culture.
- Lead player recruitment and admissions, including bursary recommendations.
- Oversee high-performance services (conditioning, sports science, injury management).
- Recruit, mentor, and develop coaches; ensure accreditation and alignment.
- Maintain rugby coaching and keep updated with methodologies.
- Implement player pathways, clinics, and leadership programmes.
- Manage operations: fixtures, tours, budgets, equipment, compliance.
- Strengthen stakeholder relationships with parents, alumni, clubs, provincial and national bodies.
- Promote development, sponsorship, fundraising, and rugby profile.
- Maintain financial management practices and exercise strategic ability in all aspects.
- Ensure clear communication with all stakeholders.
- Show proven leadership in rugby programme management.
- Strong track record in player recruitment and high-performance development.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Relevant qualifications and rugby coaching accreditation.
- Passion for youth development and commitment to the values of Wynberg Boys’ High School.
Qualifications and Skills
- Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualification, rugby coaching accreditation, BokSmart accreditation, strength & conditioning knowledge.
- Experience: Extensive school rugby coaching, programme leadership, recruitment, high-performance management, budgeting, and staff development.
- Coaching at University, provincial or national representative levels will be a distinct advantage.
- Desirable: Provincial/national coaching experience, sports management qualification.
- Competencies: Visionary leadership, organisation skills, communication skills, adaptability, and passion for youth development.
- Financial Management: Sound financial management skills and strategic thinking ability.
- Police Clearance: On appointment.
- First Aid & CPR Certification: recommended.
