The school invites applications for the following position:
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
AFRIKAANS (FAL)
Commencement Date: 1 January 2027
Only candidates with a minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience in Afrikaans as a First Additional Language (FAL), including experience across both the Senior Phase and Further Education and Training phases, will be considered.
Applicants for this position must hold an appropriate academic and professional teaching qualification and be registered with SACE.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong curriculum leadership in Afrikaans, with the ability to guide and support a team of teachers in delivering high-quality, relevant, and engaging lessons that inspire confidence and proficiency in the language. A sound understanding of current educational practices, including the effective integration of technology in teaching and learning, is essential.
The role requires a dynamic and committed educator who will foster a culture of academic excellence within the department, while also encouraging participation in Afrikaans Olympiads and other subject-related enrichment opportunities. The ability to mentor colleagues, provide academic and pastoral support to students, and contribute meaningfully to the broader life of the School, including its extramural programme, is expected.
The successful candidate will exhibit excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills, with the capacity to manage departmental responsibilities effectively. A collaborative approach, professional integrity, and a clear commitment to ongoing personal and professional development are essential.
