Kannemeyer Primary School

Kannemeyer Primary School is located in the local community of Grassy Park, Cape Town, and has been in operation for more than 50 years.

This public government school mainly serves its immediate middle-class area, but also has a bus service that brings in children from the much poorer surrounding areas, such as the farming community of Philippi. The learners at this school are between the ages of 5-13 years old. Due to the many social issues in the area, such as drug and alcohol abuse, many of the learners at the school face a daily battle just to get to school, with many parents unable to afford the monthly school fees. A feeding scheme is also in operation at the school, however this is community-funded and totally dependent on donations from parents and volunteer organisations.
