About the Academy for Environmental Leadership SA (AEL):
The AEL, a privately−owned higher education institution, offers an accredited Higher Certificate Programme in Conservation Ecology at NQF−Level 5. The AEL is a teaching− and learning−intensive institution with a strong focus on personal leadership development and environmental education as well as on social commitment. The main campus is situated on the N14 route, 25 km from Upington, towards Olifantshoek, Northern Cape. The Access for Success programme will be presented at its Duin−in−die−Weg campus near Grootdrink, Upington, Northern Cape.
What is the Access for Success programme?
The main objective of the A4S programme is to enable educationally disadvantaged learners to improve their NSC mathematics and physical science scores, to obtain foundational skills to bridge the gap between school and post− school education and to gain access to maths and science−based programmes at a university of technology. The programme does not offer any qualification but aims to prepare learners to re−write the NSC exams to improve their results.
About the Duin-in-die-Weg Campus (DIDW):
The Duin−in−die−Weg campus is an educational centre. It is situated in the riparian area of the Orange River near the town of Grootdrink. Over almost 20 years, it has become an established and increasingly popular venue for educational programmes covering a wide range of activities.
Geographically, the venue is centrally located in the Northern Cape Province. Logistically it offers the ideal opportunity for a getaway leadership tuition experience, away from home and the school environment, conducive to a better comprehension of leadership; meeting with peers, making new friends, and bonding into new networks in a unique natural environment.
The facilities include housing for staff, learner accommodation, a dining hall, lecture rooms and recreational facilities such as, a swimming pool, soccer field, rolling lawns and adequate open spaces.
