Head of Marketing and Communications – May 2025
Fish Hoek High School is seeking a creative, dynamic, and experienced Head of Marketing & Communications to lead the school’s marketing strategy and initiatives. This role requires an individual with strong skills in public relations, communications, and marketing. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing the school’s reputation by building positive relationships with key stakeholders and supporting the school’s marketing campaigns, events, and fundraising activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy Formulation & Management
- Responsible for the conceptualisation of the annual strategy, implementation plan, and the execution.
Public Relations & Communications
- Implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy that aligns with the school’s mission and values.
- Maintain positive media relationships to ensure consistent, high-quality coverage of school events, achievements, and initiatives.
- Create press releases to promote the school’s brand and key messages.
- Manage crisis communications.
Marketing & Branding
- Oversee the creation of all marketing materials, including websites, social media content, and print collateral.
- Collaborate with the school management team to manage key marketing campaigns.
- Ensure consistent brand messaging and visual identity across all platforms and materials.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including prospective and current learners, families, alumni, donors, local businesses, and the community.
- Develop engagement strategies to foster loyalty and advocacy among current families and alumni.
- Collaborate with the admissions team to ensure marketing strategies and events align with learner recruitment goals.
- Conceptualise a Stakeholder Engagement Map and Strategy.
Fundraising
- Implement fundraising campaigns and initiatives that support the school’s financial goals.
- Create compelling communication materials for donors and potential supporters.
- Organise and manage fundraising events like galas, golf days, auctions, and other fundraising programmes.
- Build relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors to secure financial support for school programmes and projects.
Digital Media Strategy
(a) Social Media Management
- Oversee the school’s social media presence across various platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.), ensuring consistent content creation and engagement with followers.
- Track digital analytics to measure the success of online campaigns.
- Promote positive storytelling about the school’s culture, learner success stories, and alumni achievements.
(b) Website Management
- Responsible for the content management of the website to ensure that the content is continuously updated.
- Oversee the website revamp project.
- Review website analytics to see how stakeholders are engaging with the content.
Event Management
- Plan, execute and support all key school events, including open days, alumni events, fundraisers, and recognition events and ad hoc events.
- Work closely with internal teams and external vendors to ensure successful event execution, managing logistics, budgets, and timelines.
- Promote events through various marketing channels to maximise participation and attendance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience developing and executing successful marketing strategies that drive engagement and awareness.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and content marketing.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with fundraising and donor relations.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Creative, resourceful, and adaptable, with a passion for education and community building.
- Proficient in Google Workspace, Word Press, CANVA, and social media management tools
