isiZulu Teacher January 2025

St John’s College is a world-class Christian, African school situated on a historic campus in Houghton, Johannesburg, offering quality education from Nursery School to Sixth Form. The school has an outstanding academic record and has a fine reputation in sports, music, drama and debating.

The isiZulu department is staffed with highly professional teachers functioning with a strong collegial ethos. In addition to isiZulu FAL, we offer IGCSE isiZulu as a Second Language in the Sixth Form programme.

We seek to appoint an individual from January 2025 who demonstrates the following:

  • a love of isiZulu and enthusiastically shares their passion with their students
  • a belief in the potential of their students and sees them as active participants in learning
  • excellent content knowledge of isiZulu culture
  • a commitment to their own lifelong learning
  • an ability to produce high-quality assessments and analysis of student performance
  • taking on extra responsibilities within the department as required by the Head of isiZulu

Responsibilities include teaching a range of isiZulu classes as well as involvement in co-curricular and pastoral duties, and members of staff are expected to support the Christian ethos of the school.

Minimum requirement

  • A Bachelor’s Degree – isiZulu as a major
    • 5+ years teaching experience at high school level
    • SACE registered

Desirable attributes

  • Experience in teaching IGCSE isiZulu as a Second Language
    • Familiar with the demands of Cambridge or IEB assessments
