The school is seeking a Departmental Head who will play a key strategic and operational middle-management role to achieve this goal. Qualification requirements (minimum): FET training with Mathematics 2 as major subject in BSc, BCom or BA degree or B.Ed. (Hons) with Mathematics as major subject. At least three years of experience in teaching Mathematics at Grade 12 level

The successful candidate will have significant experience (i.e. three or more years, please indicate years of experience) in the following management portfolios:

  • Subject Head of the Mathematics Department consisting of seven or more Educators: Must have experience in and knowledge of
    • Allocating and manage subject staff
    • Setting agendas and minutes for meetings
    • Managing a small budget
    • Contacting parents frequently
    • Doing lesson planning for grades
    • Moderating assessments and tasks
    • Developing innovative methods to improve learner achievement
    • Managing the after-hours lessons for all grades
    • Analysing systemic results
  • Pastoral Care: Must have experience in and knowledge of
    • Running the grade dealing with pastoral and discipline issues
    • Identifying learners at risk
    • Set up examination/assessment schedules
    • Do uniform checks
    • Managing Grade tutors
    • Attending and contribute to SBST meetings
  • Serve on the school’s SMT or similar management structure
    • Management and Leadership of a significant extra-mural activity
  • Management and Leadership of the Academics Portfolio. Must have experience in and knowledge of
    • Running the school’s Academic Portfolio in the absence of the Academic Head
    • Running the GET academics portfolio
    • Analysing the GET and FET result sheets – per subject and impart advice on improving results
    • Staff development and performance management
    • The NSC regarding curriculum content, assessment and internal moderation at high school level
    • Assessment co-ordination, examinations management and administration
    • WCED systems and SASPAC

Must be prepared to

  • Attend relevant courses

Must be

  • Self-motivated, self-assured with high levels of integrity and fairness who can expand the ethos of the school within the vision and mission of the school
  • An organised and persistent administrator
  • Committed to going the extra mile for the school and its community and respect the ethos of the school  Obtaining a PDP is a recommendation 
  • Well versed in modern trends w.r.t academics/education

Must have

  • A good command of the English language; a strong but approachable personality

Must provide:

  • A police clearance certificate
  • A sexual offender’s clearance certificate
  • In addition, the successful candidate will have at least three years of teaching experience, will have taught up to and including grade 12 level, and will be a competent user of technology. The individual must be prepared to undertake the responsibilities of Departmental Head whilst maintaining a full teaching load.

The candidate will have a proven track record as an excellent teacher and mentor to other teachers.

The individual must be prepared to be fully involved in the schools extra- and co-curricular programme. Such involvement will mean after-hours work and a willingness to go beyond the call of duty. State extra-murals

The successful candidate also has to be compliant with all the KRA’s of a Departmental Head The successful candidate will have a track record of strong human relations within a diverse environment.

As part of the selection process all candidates will undergo a formal interview, produce a written assessment, and conduct a demonstration for the interview panel
