Head of Department- Life Orientation

St Alban’s College, one of South Africa’s leading independent boys’ high schools, seeks to employ an HOD for our Life Orientation Department. The position is an opportunity for a senior teacher who is extremely experienced, talented, and creative and who will foster enthusiasm for Life Orientation and maintain a high standard of achievement.

The ideal candidate will be a specialist Life Orientation Teacher who is well entrenched in the IEB environment and has a proven and successful track record in teaching Life Orientation at Grade 12 level.


  • At least 5 years of experience teaching the IEB curriculum, from Grade 8 to Grade 12 and matric marker.
  • Relevant Degree.
  • Registered with SACE.
  • Teach creatively, embracing cognitive education and a willingness to use technology in their teaching methodology. Have a willingness to develop members of the department to do the same. Experience of this will be advantageous.
  • Have evidence of clearance with the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offences Register before assuming the position.
  • Be prepared to commit to upholding the core values and Christian ethos of the school, especially with regards to student participation in Community Outreach.
  • A passion for education and the desire to motivate and stimulate higher-order thinking
  • Excellent communication skills and classroom management
  • An ability to contribute to the extra-curricular program within the school would be an advantage.
  • Have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have a willingness to become fully involved in the life of the school
  • Be a committed, dynamic educationalist, with an innovative use of technology to enhance learning and have a practical approach to the subject.
