Herschel Girls School, founded in 1922, situated in Claremont, Cape Town, is an inclusive independent Anglican school for girls from Pre-Nursery to Grade 12, which welcomes pupils and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Herschel Girls Preparatory School seeks to appoint a
PREPARATORY SCHOOL COUNSELLOR
(Part-Time on a one-year fixed period contract)
to commence duties in January 2026
Herschel Girls School follows the IEB NSC qualification and is looking for an innovative and progressive School Counsellor who seeks the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and excellent staff and school.
The successful applicant will:
● Have appropriate professional qualifications with clinical training and experience in Social Work and/or Psychology (Play Therapy would be advantageous)
● Have an in-depth knowledge of family and individual therapy
● Have a thorough knowledge of the Children’s Act and regulations
● Have a sound, practically based understanding of child development and the emotional and relational needs of growing children
● Be required to work in an interdisciplinary team to promote the optimal emotional well-being of girls from Pre-Nursery to Grade 7 in a collaborative manner
● Be prepared to interact with the girls in a classroom situation, dealing with topical issues relating to their development
● Be confident and comfortable presenting workshops to parents and staff
● Have school experience (this would be advantageous)
● Hold at heart the School’s tagline of “leading the education of girls into a future of limitless possibilities” for oneself and for the pupils in one’s care
● Be fully committed to the School’s transformation, equity, and belonging strategic objectives in support of an equitable and safe school environment for all
